New York City native Azka Zafar used to hate her smile. “I got braces when I was 16,” she says, “and when they finally came off, I felt so beautiful. I felt like I became me that day.” Ever since, she’s been passionate about dentistry.
She takes her work seriously, but always tries to keep the mood light. “I want to redefine dentistry for you,” she says. “I want this to be the most fun dental experience you’ve ever had, so you actually look forward to coming back. I’ve had patients tell me they’re excited about their visit because it feels like we’re just hanging out.”
Her approach to oral health is one of moderation: “I’m not the hygienist who’s going to tell you to never eat sweets and scold you for not flossing,” she says. “Together we can build a routine that’s actually attainable. Having healthy teeth and gums and enjoying your life is totally doable.”
